Infants & Toddlers

Head Shape Management

Plagiocephaly is a flattening of one side of the skull that usually occurs when a baby keeps his or her head turned to one side more than the other. Treatment will include education on infant positioning, as well as an assessment of neck conditions that may be contributing. Potential referral for helmet therapy (only if needed).

Torticollis

Torticollis is caused by a tight muscle in the neck, which results in a head tilt and/or a preference to look to one side more than the other. This is often associated with plagiocephaly (asymmetrical head shape). Treatment will include hands-on stretching and strengthening techniques, as well as education on infant positioning.

Baby Motor Milestone Assessment

Assessment of gross motor skills and development, including education on promoting attainment of gross motor milestones for typically developing babies or babies with delayed milestones.

Physical & Developmental Disabilities

Assessment and treatment for mobility, strength, flexibility, coordination, balance and gross motor planning for children with neuromuscular, congenital, and acquired disorders.

Gait abnormalities

Assessment and treatment for atypical gait patterns including: toe walking, delayed walking, in-toeing or out-toeing.

Sports Injuries & Rehabilitation

Children are not small adults; your child may require specialized treatment for muscle strains, bone fractures or dislocations, ligament sprains, growth-related pain (such as Osgood-Schlatter’s Disease or Sever’s Disease), joint pain, or other pediatric specific conditions (such as Perthes disease or juvenile arthritis).

Prehabilitation is important for preventing injuries before they occur, which can be especially beneficial for athletes or very active children/teens. This will include assessment and treatment for posture, gait, core strength, flexibility, and specific sport conditioning (coordination, balance, agility).

Rehabilitation post-surgery

Assessment and treatment of mobility, strength, flexibility and balance, specific to the type of surgery and unique needs of the child.

Pediatric Chronic Pain & Complex Regional Pain

Many children and adolescents can develop chronic pain after an injury. Physiotherapy can play an effective role in treatment of chronic pain conditions.

Acupuncture & Dry Needling

Many children and adolescents can benefit from acupuncture and/or dry needling as part of their physiotherapy treatment plan.
